Live at The Polygon
Recorded in August 2021 as part of the Interior Infinite exhibition, this video documents a series of performances by House of Rice at The Polygon Gallery.
At the core of Interior Infinite is costume’s glorious capacity to release its wearer from suppression. Drag is exemplary of this. Romi Kim, who performs as the drag king SKIM, was invited to animate this exhibition with live performance. Live performance seemed inconceivable after the events of 2020; but SKIM, with their drag family House of Rice, achieved something momentous over their two days at The Polygon Gallery, as captured in this video document.
Afterward, House members Shay Dior and Maiden China joined SKIM for a candid reflection on their relationship to drag, recorded in 2022. Feel free to listen to their conversation by clicking below, or scroll down and click through to read the full text of their discussion, as transcribed – and illuminated with emojis – by SKIM.

Volume 1: Interior Infinite Revisited
Collection
In June 2021, the exhibition Interior Infinite, curated by Elliott Ramsey, brought together seventeen international artists whose works engaged masking, costume, and make-up, presenting these implements of disguise not as ways to conceal their subjects, to reveal them more fully. In their work, adornment and decoration are neither frivolous nor deceptive. Rather, they are key to visualising memory, embodied history, lived experience, and inner selves.
